Lamellae

I've continued my journey up into the underside of common mushrooms.

Lamella has meaning in several applications, it refers to a thin membrane or layer.

Fungus gills are often referred to by that term, and I've abstracted their patterns in this piece.

Created from silk and cotton, and machine stitched, I scattered spores all over.

It was a lot of fun to work with the vibrant imaginary colors I used.

the finished piece measures 41" square and is part of our Ithaka series.
