TRENCADÍS or how to build from pieces - Teresita Leal
Trencadís is a type of mosaic made by reusing irregular ceramic fragments. It is an architectural technique adopted during Catalan Modernism and invented by Antoni Gaudí.
The result is a mosaic that seems alive, in movement, in continuous transformation like nature
Trencadís, or how to build from pieces giving new use to the elements, both in life and in art.

I was very interested in this technique because it is a spontaneous, unpredictable, abstract and creative process, just like the raw edge appliqué from scraps I used for this piece.
